Sofa Beds Are a Popular Choice in Kid’s Furniture

One of the most popular furniture choices today is the sofa bed. Sofa beds offer a chance to save some space, yet are very functional and create flexibility in living spaces. Sofa beds are the best solution for rooms with limited space that should have both a bed and sofa in them. While traditionally used in living rooms, sofa beds are now becoming quite popular for kids rooms because of their two in one capabilities. Sofa beds can be a fun and functional choice for kid’s room furniture.

It’s pretty common knowledge that kids are a mess waiting to happen. If you want to give them a lot of room to play you need to keep furniture in kid’s rooms to a minimum and you know they’re going to litter the room with toys and other belongings. Of course, a bed is an essential part of the bedroom and it’s large footprint can take up a lot of valuable space. That can leave very little room for studying and playing.

Older children need different furniture during the day. If they have a sofa they can sit comfortably to do the things they enjoy. Much of the time a bed is of no use during waking hours and simply takes up space without being used throughout the day.

In many cases a sofa bed for a kid’s room is the perfect answer, allowing children to use and enjoy their personal space easily. Sometimes parents don’t think about it but a sofa can become a necessary part of a kid’s room after they reach a certain age. When growing children start to read a lot of books the need a comfortable place where they can sit and concentrate.

Often when a bed is used as a reading station it can cause a child to feel drowsy and become unable to concentrate on anything but sleep. IF your child has a sofa she will be able to use it a lot for many more purposes and have fun at the same time.

Another great feature of using a sofa bed in a kid’s room is that it saves a lot of room. Then you might have the space you need to put in a study table, dresser, wardrobe or other useful furniture. Without the added clutter of extra furniture a room looks larger and is more comfortable and useful when they need room for projects, entertaining friends and slumber parties.

You can find a sofa bed for a kid’s room in any color, style or design you want. Many of the styles we find for general use will also be good for use in a kid’s room too. Kids will often prefer the comfort of an upholstered sofa. There are also kid’s sofa beds designed to work with specific themes if you intend to create a themed space for your child.

Furniture – Craigslist Purchasing Tips on Used Couches

You can buy a used couch for the cheap at an online classifieds website any day of the year! There are hundreds of people willing to sell their couches at dirt cheap prices so that they can salvage whatever they have before they move to a new city. There are a few things you need to keep in mind while going furniture shopping.

See the Couch’s Picture. Whenever you wish to purchase any used furniture, see the picture first. If you are not sure, ask for close up pictures to look for infestations or damages or cigarette burns, etc. and buy only the best as well as cheap one.

Check if the couch is covered. Some sellers buy a good cover or new cushions to hide the defects of their old couch. Do not fall for such ploys. Check the couch first.

Couches left outside. Do not buy a sofa or couch that has been left outside to be preyed upon by rain, snow, sun, insects and other strays. These sofas are not worth to be kept inside your living room.

Couch Transportation. Do not plan to purchase any heavy item that requires a transportation vehicle without making arrangement for it in advance. It is wrong to keep a seller waiting for you to arrive to take the object away for days together just because you don’t have a plan.

Bedbug Trouble. Bedbugs are tiny insects that not only invade our beds but also the sofas, couches and other cushiony stuff. Bedbugs multiply easily and infest even in an otherwise tidy home, so do not buy any couch that had been kept in a dirty surrounding.

With these useful tips, go ahead and browse through Craigslist for a good sofa in your locality. To find a good offer beyond your area, download the Craigslist search tool.

How to Clean a Leather Sofa

A leather sofa in the living room is a sign of class and elegance. Not only is it a timeless piece of furniture but it can be very durable as well. Having a leather sofa can be a long term investment if you know how to care for it properly. Before purchasing a leather sofa, you really need to evaluate your lifestyle and cleaning habits. There are many grades of leather from which sofas can be made and each grade type requires a different cleaning regiment. Ironically, the top grade leather sofas which are the most expensive are the hardest to care for. A brief explanation is in order.

Top grade animal hide devoid of any blemishes is usually just treated with aniline dye. Therefore, this type of leather is called aniline leather. This is as natural as you can get and you can see the leather’s natural characteristics. Also, to preserve its suppleness, no other protection is applied on it. The next in leather grade is semi aniline leather. As the name hints, this is not pure aniline leather – a protective coating or color pigments have been applied to it. Some manufacturers prefer to add more pigmentation to the leather in order to even out the coloring due to consumer preference instead of leaving it as natural as aniline leather. However, this pigment is applied on top of the leather instead of the color absorbing into the leather. As the processes of adding more coatings of protection or coloring increases, the stiffer the leather becomes and this takes away from the natural beauty of the leather. On the plus side, however, the coatings help protect the leather from absorbing stains and spills. Leather that has gone through few treatment processes are very easy to stain.

With this in mind on the different types of leather, you have to evaluate how careful you will be with a new leather sofa. If you want durable, easy to clean furniture, then a cheaper leather sofa with a protective coating is your choice. To clean it, a wipe of a damp leather cloth will do. However, if you are a careful person then a semi-aniline leather sofa or even a pure aniline leather couch might be more to your liking. Be careful though, as these couches require professional cleaning once in awhile to get rid of surface dirt.

A Basic Guide to Sofa Sleepers

Most of us have faced the situation where we had to provide an extra bed for a guest in our home. But many of us were not prepared for the situation. Usually the guest or we had to sleep, if you can call it that, on the couch rather uncomfortably. That is why foam sleepers were invented. These while normally functioning as a chair or a sofa can be folded out in to a bed fairly quickly and easily. They provide a space saving way to have an extra bed in your house or apartment just in case, especially in cases where there are no extra guest rooms to accommodate guests.

Foam chairs can also be used as comfortable lounging chairs, for watching televisions or reading, especially for children. They will make the experience more pleasurable and preserve your other furniture from damage. In fact some chairs made for this purpose can be folded out into either partial and fully reclining positions as per requirements.

Convertible sofas, futons, and bean bags, offer similar functionality; that is conversion from a chair to a bed or reclining chair. However they differ in the way it is achieved. In foam sleepers the bed is folded in to the sofa and has to be pulled out, while in others the whole sofa or chair is converted into the bed or reclining chair.

Buying Sleeper SofasFoam sleepers are available in variety of sizes, shapes, and even names. The choice of upholstery and mattresses is wide as well. We will go through some of the factors that must be looked into when buying a foam sleeper.

Foam sleepers are more expensive than normal sofas; you must first decide whether the expense is worth it. You should check in several stores in order get the best prices and try them out in the stores to ensure their quality and comfort.

You must also keep in mind that foam in these beds while fire resistant and specially made, will not last long and will need to be replaced periodically to maintain the user’s comfort. In other words they are made for occasional use when there is a need, and not for everyday use.

While most of them can comfortably function as sofas they cannot be as comfortable as pure sofas generally. This is due to the fact that both the bed frame and the mattress have to be folded inside the sofa. Some may feel the sofa to be firmer than normal sofas. They are also heavy and will require two or three people to move. However there especially made light weight foam sofas to address this difficulty.

Most sleeper sofa mechanisms are manufactured using similar designs using hardwood and metal. So there will not be much to choose between them. You should check whether it is easy to use, both in folding out and folding in.

Sleepers usually come in several sizes. In ascending order they are chair sleepers, twin sleepers, full sleepers, and queen sleepers. A normal size sofa will convert into a queen sized bed while a love seat sleeper will fold out to a twin sized bed. You should decide which will suit you and the size of your room beforehand. You should also have clear idea about how much rearranging will be required when the sofa is converted into a bed.

Mattresses used in sleeper sofas can be quite different from each other. They are also more flexible and as such less firm than normal mattresses. Memory foam mattresses do not have any coils in them and conforms to the sleeper’s body much more easily than others. Inner spring mattresses have coils inside them. Comfort will depend on the number of coils inside; more the better. Air coil mattresses feature an inner coil mattress and an air mattress combined with the air mattress on top of the coil one.

Foam Sleepers can be upholstered using various materials ranging from fabrics, to leather, to micro-fibers. Fabrics upholstery will be available in many colors and patterns to match your other furnishings requirements. Leather will last longer, but your range of choices when it comes to colors, will be limited. Micro-fiber upholstery will also last longer and will be wrinkle free and will keep their shape for longer. Generally you can get beautiful upholstery with animals, racecars, flowers, and such designs, for children’s foam chairs.

Furniture Trends – Rich Sofa Tables

As you are adding the finishing touches to your living room, make sure you do it right. This means reading up on the current furniture fashion trends and knowing that what you are buying is in style and not passé.

Among the trends for furniture this year are luxury and rich pieces. This is good news if you are preparing to buy sofa tables for your living room.

Sofa tables are pretty big pieces of furniture. After all, they are supposed to be pretty much the size of the sofa and are a table that spans the length of the back of the sofa. So, there is a lot of material to work with here as you are trying to choose something that has the luxury lifestyle feeling that you need to go with this years furniture fashions!

The first thing you need to think about when it comes to purchasing rich-looking sofa tables is to make sure they will be seen. What is the use of buying beautiful furniture and then making it where no one can see it? Sadly many people do this when it comes to these tables. They want the sofa against a wall, following traditional styling. Then they decide they want a space to put things nearby and put the table against the wall, with the sofa up against it.

This leaves very little of the table to be visible to anyone who comes in the room. If they are not looking at those two small end portions they may completely miss the fact that the sofa tables are even there.

Instead, it is better to show off those sofa tables! This means you need to pull that sofa away from the wall. Now, you don’t have to pull it very far out, just enough space that someone can walk behind the sofa and sofa table combination and take a good look at this piece of furniture.

If you have a large living room, however, you can actually pull the sofa into the middle of the room and allow the sofa table that is behind it to be a part of the extravagant look of the table.

When selecting a rich sofa table to go with the style, you need to take the other furniture pieces you have in the room into account. What materials are the other pieces made out of? What colors or finishes are being used in the rest of the room? These should all be taken into consideration when you are selecting the pieces of furniture that would be best suited to your living room. If you don’t take these things into account you could end up falling in love with a sofa table only to bring it home and find out it clashes with something else in the room.

The decoration of a living room is a big thing, especially since this is one of the most used rooms in the house. Now that you know the style you can make sure all of the pieces, down to the furniture tables are lush, luxurious and make everyone envious of this space.

How to Buy a Real Comfortable Sofa or Chair That

How to Buy a Real Comfortable Sofa or Chair That Can Be in Your Family for a Long Time!

If you have dogs, cats and small children you might find some valuable tips here.

It is estimated that the average person spends approximately 14 to 16 hours a day in either a seated and/or lying position – most of it atop upholstered furniture. Very few consumers have an understanding of the technology that comfortably supports our bodies in these relaxed positions. Allow us to help out here, not only as to how a sofa or chair is put together, but also how to select upholstered furniture for your home.

The first part of any sofa is the frame. Although it is hidden from view, attention should be paid to this crucial part. For a quality sofa, select a frame made of hard woods such as oak, ash or maple. The frame should also be kiln dried in an effort to extract any excess moisture and strengthen the wood. When moisture is eliminated, your sofa will stand a better chance against warping. This can occur in climates that tend to undergo severe weather changes. A few more “buzz” words pertaining to the wood frame of your sofa should include “double doweled, glued and bolted” which mean all joints are fitted and bolted wherever possible to ensure a wobble-free frame. “Corner blocking” is still used whenever possible to add to the overall strength and hold the frame rigid. If you expect to invest in a sofa that will last several years, its construction should be of the above described solid wood frame.

As you are approached by the savvy salesperson while seated on the showroom floor sofa, you should ask if the manufacturer offers “eight-way, hand-tied” individual coil springs in the seat cushions. This will allow the coil springs in the cushions to evenly distribute the weight while you are seated on the sofa and allow two people of different weights to be seated at the same time. A “flat spring or batten strap” will not hold up over time and will cause your sofa to eventually mimic a trampoline-so make sure you get a eight-way, hand-tied model.

Much has been written and can be talked about on the subject of “cushions.” When you are choosing a “cushion style” for your sofa, down-ticking with a poly-foam insert would be preferable to most consumers. The down feathers are sewn in place at a 2″ depth around the cushion, all the while being supported by the poly foam fiber inside. This combination gives the most comfort and additionally, it has “memory” allowing the cushion to automatically “bounce” back into shape. Keep in mind that the back cushions should have significant lumbar properties and that retention of shape is an integral look of the overall finished sofa and/or chair. When deciding on your back cushions, some manufacturers can substitute lesser quality for the back cushions instead of down feathers. But the real test is the “sitting test”…Just sit down on a few sofas and decide which one feels the best to you.
